Hi there guys!
I’m so excited to post my first tutorial and pattern. I have to say, making a tutorial and pattern is harder than I thought.I appreciate all you bloggers so much more now!
This booties pattern is adorable, easy to sew and super practical for every season, depending on the materials you use.
Shall we begin? OK here goes…(hyperventilating).
The Sahar baby shoe pattern size 12-18 monthes
SAHAR BABY SHOE FREE PATTERN
sew a 1/4 inch seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
If you are using faux leather or other synthetic fabric, skip the ironing steps and instead kind of press everything into place manually.
– 1/4 yd exterior fabric (I use any medium/ heavy weight fabric: canvas, leather, faux leather, sweatshirt material, suede)
– 1/4 yd lining fabric (fleece, felt, sherpa, you can also use jersey or quilting weight cotton fabric for a more summery shoe).
– 20 inches of 1/4″ wide elastic
– fabric marker or chalk
– coordinating thread, scissors, pins, seam ripper
Cut pattern pieces mirrored ( right/wrong sides of fabric facing each other)
Pin sole exterior and sole lining wrong sides facing.
Sew them together as closely to the edge as possible.
Sew the top exterior and top lining together along the straight edge, right sides facing.
Iron the seam open as shown in the picture.
Fold the exterior piece down over the lining with right sides facing out. Iron to reduce bulkiness. Top stitch along the straight edge 1/4 inch down from the edge.
Mark the opening slits for the elastic.
With a seam ripper, rip the openings in the lining piece be careful not to rip the other layer or the top stitching.
Sew the exterior heel and lining heel right sides facing along the straight edge.
Iron the seams open.
Fold the sides of the heel in 1/4 of an inch and iron down, as shown in the picture.
Fold the exterior piece down over the lining with right sides facing out. Iron it down. Sew the edges together. Sew slowly, because it’s rather thick.
It will look like this.
Fold down the top of the heel about 1/2 inch to make a casing for a 10 inch piece of elastic. while sewing, the fabric may have moved around a little. Check if the bottom edges match up. if they do not, trim them.
Mark the midpoint of (top and bottom) sole. With right sides together, match up the center top with the center sole top. Starting at the midpoint, sew around one side of the shoe. Flip the shoe over go back to the midpoint and sew the other side of the shoe. Stop every few stitches and pivot the fabric as you sew.
Place the midpoint of the heel on the bottom midpoint of the sole right sides facing. Start at the midpoint carefully sew around one side and then turn the shoe over and sew the other side.
Insert a pair of tweezers into the elastic slits. Grab one end of elastic and pull it through both slits.
It will look like this:
Mark 2″ to 2.5″ from edge of elastic. Place a pin perpendicular to marked line. Sew back and forth on the line a couple of times. Trim excess elastic.
Tuck the elastic into the casing.
Turn the shoes right side out.
VOILA! You’ve got an awesome pair of baby shoes!
